Rare statue in silvered bronze by Celestin-Anatole Calmels (Paris 1822-Lisbonne 1906) representing “the castanet player”. The sculptor learnt his art from the master Jean-Jacques Pradier (1790-1852) and was one of the 8 artists, students of Pradier who created his tomb in le “Pere Lachaise” cemetery. Calmels has been granted with the 2nd grand prix de Rome in 1839. He spent most of his life in Lisbonne where he built different important monuments.The E. Benezit Dictionnaire des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs et Graveurs lists Calmels on vol.2 page 466.

Bust in bronze by Michel Louis Victor Mercier, born in Meulan the 24th of May 1810 and died in 1984.He entered in “l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts” in 1831 and was student of Pradier.He was one of the 8 students of the master who created his tomb in the “Pere Lachaise” cemetery.A statue in marble of Ste Genevieve can be seen in the jardin du Luxembourg in Paris and many other busts are kept in the museum of Versailles.The E. Benezit Dictionnaire des Paintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs et Graveurs lists Professor Michel Mercier on volume 7, page 340.

Bust of an Emperor in bronze by Mathurin Moreau;born in Dijon, the 18th of November 1822 and died in Paris the 14th of February 1912. Son and student of Jean-Baptiste Moreau, in 1841 he entered in “l ecole des Beaux-Arts” and worked with Ramey and Dumont.He got the second price of Rome in 1842 and got many other decorations. He built many monuments such as a marble group in Beaune or the statue of President Carnot in Dijon.He was the mayor of the XXth district of Paris at the end of his life.The E. Very decorative work of sculpture in a panel of oak. This pannel in the gothic style is directly inspired by the tendance of the second part of the XIXth Century. This very unusual piece has probably been made by a master sculptor and is signed on its back.

Box for Tea in ebonzsed lacquered wood with hand painted gilded chinoiserie decor. Typical of the Napoleon III period. Completed inside with a highly decorative enngraved tin box divided into two compartments for storing dry the tea.

Correspondance box in ebonized wood highly decorated with inlays of brass and mother of pearls and ivory, monogram CM. Silk upholstered inside with deep buttoning and a divided compartment to store the letters. Typical work of Napoleon III period.

Globe de mariage is the crown of a bride kept under a glass dome. This habit was in use during the end of the XIXth Century and until first world war. Our example is a rare early model offering a music box with two tones and is still very fresh and in perfect condition.

Statue in gilded bronze representing “Vauban”, most famous architect under Louis XIV. Vauban is represented here on the fortification of Valenciennes, city that has been taken and fortified by Vauban in 1677. After 1678, Valenciennes became the most important fortified city of the North of France. This statue, unsigned is extremly fine and can be considered as a master work.

Bronze with double patina signed by Joseph-Victor Chemin, born in Paris the 25th of August 1825 an died in 1901. He was a student of Barye, the most famous sculptor of animals. Statue in bronze by Georges Flamand, sculptor from the second part of the XIXth Century and first part of the XXth Century. Our statue named “le semeur de gloire” (spreader of gloria) has been created after the war in 1870 against the Prussians and glorifies the army with the representation of a man who spread laurel estrained in a flag.

Rare statue in bronze with double patina represented le Duc de Savoie on his horse. This statue in bronze is attributed at Emmanuel Fremmiet (Paris 6 Decembre 1824 – Paris 10 Septembre 1910) and is typical from this artist who created la Jeanne d’Arc, place des Pyramides in Paris.Pierre Kjellberg’s dictionnary of the XIXth Century bronzes lists Fremiet page.327.

Statue of a dog in bronze by Louis Albert Carvin (Paris 7/08/1875-6/01/1951). The artist was a student of Fremiet and Gardet, specialised in animal representations often inspired by “les fables” de La Fontaine.The E. Benezit: Dictionnaire des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs et Graveurs lists Louis-Albert Carvin on volume 2,page 569 and the dictionnaire des sculpteurs by Pierre Kjellberg lists the arist page 196.
